Kira Akerman

Kira is a documentary filmmaker and advisor to Ripple Effect, focusing on the interaction between visual media and learning. Kira directed “Station 15,” which screened on PBS, a Smithsonian exhibit across Louisiana, the Climate Museum in NYC, DocNYC, Imagine Science Film Fest, Sheffield Doc Fest, and the 2018 UN Global Climate Summit. Her short film “The Arrest” screened on The Atlantic’s website, the Camden International Film Festival, Rooftop Film Fest (with MOMA), and DocNYC. It’s currently on view at the Ford Foundation Gallery. Her film and installations have also appeared at the Borscht Film Festival, Prospect Art Biennials 2 & 3, New Orleans, the CAC, MASS MoCA, Rotterdam, and Clermont Ferrand. Kira is currently working on a new water literacy film, called Hollow Tree, a coming-of-age story about three young women in Southeast Louisiana.
